When an emergency high-risk procedure results in the death of a teenager, Maggie finds herself in the middle of a lawsuit—and experiencing levels of anxiety she's never faced before. She knows she needs to slow down before she burns out completely, and the best place she can think to do that is Sullivan's Crossing. Named for Maggie's great-grandfather, the land and charming general store at the crossroads of the Colorado and the Continental Divide Trails have been passed down through the generations and now belong to Maggie's eccentric father, Sully. When she shows up unannounced, he welcomes her with open arms, and she relishes the opportunity to indulge in his simple way of life. But shortly after arriving, Maggie's world is rocked once again and she must take on more responsibility than she'd planned. Though she's relieved a quiet and serious-looking hiker, Cal Jones, is willing to lend a hand, Maggie is suspicious of this mysterious man's eagerness to help—until she finds out the true reason for his deliberate isolation. Though Cal and Maggie each struggle with loss and loneliness, the time they spend together gives Maggie hope for something brighter just on the horizon…if only they can learn to find peace and healing—and perhaps love—with each other.

Book What We Find (Sullivan's Crossing Book 1) Review :

I started this series on book two, worked my way through three and four, and finally made my way around to book one. I have loved getting to see the start of things even if it felt repetitive due to reading the others first. We get a more in depth look at some of the relationships and where it all started. It was sweet to watch it unfold.I adore the setting of Sully’s campground, the characters who work there, and the struggles they are faced with. By the end of this book I felt like I was friends with these characters and became even more invested in them than I was before.I love that Maggie (and Cal) were both faced with difficult situations. At first it seemed they ran away for comfort only to realized that they were taking a step back while they worked through it all only to find themselves and their futures more clear. Sully’s campground really does sound like a special place full of unexpected goodness. This was a quick and charming read that sets the tone for the books that follow.
So I haven't read a book by this author in a few years, since I read quite a few of the Virgin River series. I had high expectations since I enjoyed those books, but I was so disappointed with this book. So first of all, there were SO many sentences that just didn't make sense to me. By adding ONE word here or there, the whole sentence would have been totally understandable. I had to read sentences over and over again sometimes just to understand what she was trying to say. The story was okay, but I just wasn't enthralled by the characters. It was disappointing to me that the main characters where just kinda-sorta attracted to each other and in the same place at the same time wanting the same thing, so they slept together. Then all of a sudden, when it just seemed like a fling, they are in love / getting there? And they had barely known each other and were just having fun, but he got licensed in the state to practice law FOR HER??? The whole thing seemed weird and unreal / unbelievable. I just couldn't finish the book. DNF @ 53%.
